Workflow

Use the portal in three steps

Choose a domain

Start with the topic area, then pick the region before opening indicators. That keeps the workflow scoped and faster.

Open the right indicator

Review the preferred source, coverage label, and latest geography table. Save the strongest source when it fits the question.

Work from Workspace

Filter geographies, export rows, view quick charts, and use trend only where the source truly supports it.

Example

Need county poverty data for Southwest Virginia?

Open Poverty and income, select Southwest Virginia, then choose County poverty rate. Preview the geography table, save the source, and move to Workspace for charting and export.

What to expect from the data

Coverage labels

County only, County + state, and County + state + U.S. reflect what the same source actually supports in-app.

Trend support

Trend is shown only where the upstream source exposes a real annual series. If it is not reliable, the app does not force it.

Trust first

Use the preferred source when it fits the question. If a metric is county-only or benchmark-limited, that reflects the source, not missing UI.
